MORRIÑA… (HOMESICKNESS)

Hoy os quiero hablar de un sentimiento muy gallego 🙂 (bueno, en realidad supongo que de todo el mundo, pero nosotros hacemos de este término algo “nuestro”): LA MORRIÑA: La morriña es un sentimiento propio en todos los seres humanos. Sin embargo, para los gallegos es mas que un simple sentimiento, es un sello particular de identidad.

Today I want to talk about a very Galician feeling 🙂 (well, actually I guess it is a feeling of everyone, but we do this term something “our”): homesickness: The homesickness  is a proper feeling in all beings human. However, for the Galician is more than just a feeling, it is a particular hallmark.

Como dice la Wikipedia (página “reina” de las definiciones 😉 )  Morriña describe un sentimiento que se refiere especialmente a la añoranza de la tierra de donde procede uno. Se trata de un término incorporado al español proveniente del gallego, que se asemeja al de saudade en portugués, pero que contiene connotaciones aplicables únicamente a Galicia y al sentir melancólico gallego. Se utiliza en español en general para describir un sentimiento de tristeza por la lejanía del lugar de donde procede uno y de aquellas cosas, objetos y situaciones que lo evocan.

As Wikipedia (web page “queen” of the definitions;)) says, Homesickness describes a feeling refers especially to the longing of the earth from which one. This is a built from Galician to Spanish, which is similar to saudade in Portuguese term, but contains connotations apply only to Galicia and Galician feel melancholy. Spanish is used in general to describe a feeling of sadness for the remoteness of the place from which one is, to those things, objects and situations that evoke that place.

Esta morriña es la que hace que los gallegos siempre que podemos cojamos el coche y tiremos hacia “nuestra tierra”, y da igual que haga buen tiempo (que SI que lo hace jajaj), o no, que disfrutamos de la familia, los amigos, las vistas, los olores, la comida, la fiesta (no es por ser gallega pero eso de que en el norte somos más cerrados debe tener su excepción en Galicia jajajaj), etc, etc

This nostalgia is what causes that Galicians usually take the car to “our land” whatever good weather (which it does hahahaha YES!!) or not, we enjoy family, friends, the sights, the smells, the food, the party (not by being Galician, but that what people say about in the north everybody is very private, is not truth, or we must have its exception ahahahah), etc, etc.

Y como no podía ser de otra forma, eso es lo que hice esta Semana Santa! 🙂 y fue estupendo!!! pude disfrutar de la playa, de comida, comida, comida, comida……….(hasta el infinito), y simplemente de estar en mi casa  🙂 (si, si, aunque lleves mil años con casa en otra parte, un gallego sigue diciendo que se va a su casa cuando va a Galicia jeje).

And how could it be otherwise, that’s what I did this Easter! 🙂 And it was great! I could enjoy the beach, food, food, food, food ………. (to infinity), and just to be in my house 🙂 (yes, yes.. if you have another house since thousand years elsewhere, a Galician keeps saying that he “goes home” when he goes to Galicia hehe).
